LANGUAGE EDUCATION

Good communication skills are a key to success in a changing world undergoing rapid globalization. The aim of our language education is to help students become bi-literate (English and Chinese) and trilingual (English, Cantonese and Putonghua) while possessing a high proficiency in languages for lifelong and life-wide communication. We understand that languages are linked to the cultures and ordinary lives of the peoples who speak the languages. Hence, we adopt a holistic approach in our language education through policies, environments, activities and programmes:

•  Whole-school approach in using English as the medium of communication (EMC)

•  Small-class teaching for English Language lessons in Form 1 and Form 2 to assist students in adapting to the EMC environment

•  Putonghua teaching for Chinese Language lessons in junior forms to cater for students with different Putonghua abilities

•  School-based curriculum in junior forms focusing on developing the language skills of the students, with strong emphasis on the writing skills

•  Uninterrupted Morning Reading Programme (UMRP) to promote reading habits

•  Dynamic and interactive learning activities: Lunch Broadcast, Video Conferencing, Dramas, Debates, Junior Reporter Scheme and competitions in reading, spelling, grammar and phonics

•  Stimulating environment with state-of-the-art facilities: Language Studio, Performing Arts Theatre and Multi-Media Learning Centre

•  Experienced and professionally trained language teachers, most with Master degrees
