Principal's Message
Tak Sun has been a name in Hong Kong education for 80 years now and is characterized by a strong family spirit. This year, we celebrate the 80th anniversary of Tak Sun Primary School and the 10th of Tak Sun Secondary School.
Tak Sun is the only English Medium boys’ secondary school in Hong Kong’s New Territories. It has 900 students and nearly 100 full time staff as well as numerous part time teachers who come in to teach Music, Spanish and other extra-curricular subjects. Tak Sun is especially strong in the core subjects of the NSS with an outstanding track record in English, Chinese and Mathematics. We employ several Native English-speaking Teachers (NET) and provide split class English tuition for all students in Forms 1 and 2 to help them adjust to an EMI environment.
Tak Sun has a number of unique features that distinguish it from other schools. First, our One Student One Service and Art program (OSOSA). Each student from Form 1-3 must learn one musical instrument and practice one sport. Also, all Form 1 boys must join one of our 5 uniform groups, including Boy Scouts, Red Cross, St John’s Ambulance, Sea Cadets and Air Cadets. Second, each year in the week before the Chinese New Year holiday, Tak Sun organizes a one week Activity Week Experience (AWE) of project learning for the entire school. In January 2011 there will be learning projects in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Mainland China, Singapore, Vietnam, Italy, Spain and Kenya, East Africa among others.
Finally, Tak Sun offers a twin track personalized education to each individual student, which lays equal emphasis on both academic and character formation. Character development is fostered through the school activities mentioned above as well as a virtues program. Furthermore, each student is given an individual tutor to counsel and orients him in academic work and personal behavior.
We hope that you enjoy learning about Tak Sun as you browse our web-site and look forward to welcoming you in person at our school.
